What is Motability?
If you are receiving the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, then you can use the Motability Scheme to get a new car, that is affordable for you.
Who Qualifies?
To join the Motability Scheme, you must receive one of the following allowances:
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
You will need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance when you apply.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for disabled people between the ages of 16 and 64, even those with an "indefinite" or "lifetime" award. Disabled children will continue to receive DLA until they reach the age of 16. DLA will also continue to be available for those who were aged 65 or over on 8 April 2013 (20 June 2016 in Northern Ireland).

To qualify for the Motability Scheme, you must receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP). Applications must be received and accepted by Motability Operations from 1st April 2021 to 30th June 2021. Offers may be withdrawn at any time and are subject to availability. Not available in conjunction with any other offer.
